Australian Rotaract Conference Logo Design Competition

As part of the lead up to the Australian Rotaract Conference, we are giving members of the public the opportunity to design our conference logo. Ideally, the chosen design will be by an up and coming graphic artist who is looking for a boost to their design portfolio. Please see the full brief below.

Australian Rotaract Conference

Our District is hosting the Australian Rotaract Conference this year. Here is a piece about it by President Travis from his blog at www.travisholland.com.au.

In 2010, I attended the Asia Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference in Sydney. It was the first time APRRC had been held in Australia. Evidently, Australians had been conspicuous by their absence from conferences elsewhere. The Sydney conference was a good first attempt, given many of the organisers had never been to one before. Nonetheless, there were some things that could have been improved.

Rotaract Games Report

On Thursday, February 9, two Rotaractors were eagerly reading weather reports and watching the flickering images on the Bureau of Meteorology’s radar. On the radar, dark patches of red were moving across the coastal city of Wollongong, NSW. Shortly after, Twitter users in Wollongong began reporting flash flooding, complete with images of cars floating along creeks that looked suspiciously like streets. The Rotaractors were worried - not because of the flooding itself - but because of the event that was coming that weekend.

Rotaract Games

We are pleased to announce that we are co-hosting the Rotaract Games with the University of Wollongong Rotaract Club, beginning February 10, 2012. The games will be held over a single weekend in Wollongong. They are open to all Rotaractors.

Check out the dedicated website for the Rotaract Games for more info. We hope to see you there!

A busy weekend

Our trivia event So You Think You Know Christmas on Friday night was successful. While fewer people came along than we might have hoped, everyone had a really great night. We raised about $200, which the club has decided to donate to the Bowral Youth Refuge. We will be topping that up with funds from our club accounts. The exact amount is still under discussion.

So You Think You Know Christmas

Last year's awesome So You Think You've Got Smarts deserves a sequel, so here it is!

Help End Polio Now

Here is an opportunity to influence government policy and end polio for good.

All Rotarians and Rotaractors, and others interested in ending polio, are being asked to write to the Prime Minister Julia Gillard urging the government to take the lead in finding donations to eliminate the funding gap for the polio campaign. Australia is about to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and this is a prime opportunity for us to inform our leaders of just how strongly we feel about the elimination of polio.
